Latin America at the crossroads of generative AI and its responsible adoption in the judicial sphere

2025

About this project

This project focused on analyzing the adoption of generative artificial intelligence in the judicial sector in Latin America, with special attention to cases in Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, and Mexico. The purpose was twofold: to develop a diagnosis of the state of these technologies in each country and to promote the formation of national communities of practice that strengthen the debate and contribute to their impact on public policy.

Throughout the project, evidence was collected and systematized on perceptions, levels of adoption, and experiences with the development of generative AI in the region. This analysis made it possible to identify tensions, strengths, challenges, and opportunities associated with its incorporation into judicial systems.

The results are reflected in the national reports shared on this site. Each one offers a detailed overview of the context of adoption, highlighting both the uses and values attributed to these tools and the ethical and governance concerns they raise. These inputs were discussed in the workshops “Generative AI and the judiciary: building an agenda for responsible adoption,” held in each country during 2025, which enriched the diagnoses with local and multisectoral exchanges.
