To take advantage of the benefits of artificial intelligence (AI), judicial sectors in several Latin American countries are implementing (or in the process of implementing) these technologies in their processes or services. In this context, CETyS is conducting a research project aimed at assessing the readiness, needs, obstacles and opportunities of the judicial sector to responsibly adopt AI technologies.<\/p>

The team is composed by a multidisciplinary team of 11 researchers from the region who are specifically analyzing the cases of Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Uruguay.<\/p>

The research involves the identification of the current use of AI and related digital technologies by the judicial sector; an assessment of their potential application to address their key needs and challenges; and also, the discussion of critical design and implementation issues related to fairness, accountability and judicial independence.<\/p>

Within this framework, a virtual peer review workshop was held on April 14 and 15 to present the preliminary results of the research. The next step will be to present the final documents together with national actors from each of the countries involved and then the process will finish with the publication of the documents.<\/p>

An analytical framework for Latin America<\/h2>

The project also stands out because it proposes and elaborates an analytical framework that allows other judicial agents or stakeholders to carry out the same work of diagnosis, evaluation and adoption of IA strategies in their processes and public services in a responsible manner, from a regional perspective.\u00a0<\/p>

The framework functions as a map with indicators specific to the region on digital governance regulations and public actors (with emphasis on AI); judicial modernization processes; a diagnosis and development of capacities for its adoption; existing conditions for AI deployment in the judicial sphere; and references to its opportunities and risks.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
